Google's Street View has made its way around the world and gone off the beaten path in a few places, but until now it hasn't hitched a ride to capture some scenery by rail. That picturesque view above comes from a section of the Albula / Bernina railway in Switzerland -- a UNESCO World Heritage site -- all 122 kilometers of which were recently mapped out and photographed by Google using its usual Street View camera gear. Unfortunately, while that part of the process is done, the results haven't yet made their way onto the internet -- you can apparently look for that to hit Google Maps in the coming months.

Oder chami bim Kolleg daheime iilogge und dert miner Playlists übertue. Oder ir Bude weni allei bi via Notebook + Boxe mis Züg lose. Eifach für unterwegs tougts nid wöumer no kener Flatrate hei (bezahlbari), aber das chunnt de irgendwenn ou no.

Mit etwas Verzögerung hat Google seine Pläne umgesetzt , die Nutzung der Maps-API nicht mehr uneingeschränkt kostenlos zu gestatten. Wer jetzt damit Karten auf seiner Website darstellt, muss für je 1000 Abrufe mindestens 4 US-Dollar zahlen. Als Abruf gilt jeweils das Laden der JavaScript- oder Flash-API durch die Webseite, das Laden einer Karte per Static-Maps-Schnittstelle sowie der Zugriff auf ein Panoramabild via Street-View-Image-API.

Noch allerdings gibt es Bagatellgrenzen, bis zu denen die kostenlose Nutzung erlaubt bleibt. Sie gelten für bis zu 25 000 tägliche Abrufe einfacher Karten pro Tag, für "Styled Maps" liegt die Grenze bei 2 500 Abrufen. Besonders hohe Gebühren berechnet Google für Websites, die noch die Version 2 der Maps-API benutzen: Für sie fallen 10 US-Dollar pro 1000 Abrufe an.

Alternativ bietet Google eine Maps Premier License an. Sie kostet mindestens 10 000 US-Dollar pro Jahr, enthält allerdings über die einfache API hinausgehende Funktionen und erlaubt den Einsatz für interne sowie kostenpflichtige Angebote.
