OCZ Technology's pushing SSDs on step further this morning, with the introduction of the Octane SATA 6Gbps and Octane-S2 SATA 3Gbps SSDs. These guys promise "record-breaking access times" and up to 1TB of capacity, with Indilinx Everest internals playing things out on the inside. Oddly enough, the company claims that this is the world's first SSD to hit 1TB, but in fact, we saw the first one from pureSilicon way back in early 2009. At any rate, the company claims that these guys can deliver up to 560MB/sec of bandwidth and 45,000 IOPS, and they rely on a proprietary page mapping algorithms allow for steady mixed-workload performance. The Octane series also includes a number of features unique to Indilinx -- including latency reduction technology -- enabling both read and write access times as low as 0.06ms and 0.09ms, respectively. Aside from that 1TB flagship, there will also be 128GB, 256GB and 1TB models, and while no pricing details are being outed just yet, we're told to expect around $1.10 to $1.30 per gigabyte. Interested? They'll start shipping on November 1st.

T Gschwindigkeit isch s einte, i 10 Sekunde ufstarte und instant abefahre isch mega, all Programm instant offe isch au mega, unglaublich. Was ich aber no fascht besser finde: MER GHÖRT NIX! Vorher grad am laptop, die vermeindlich lislig HD (ich luege immer das alles möglichscht lislig isch) immer es fett verschissnigs idle-Grüüsch vo sich gäh, da raschtisch ja us.. Ich weiss no wis bim alte PC gsi isch: Chrrzzzz-ratatatata-chrrrrzzzz-ratatatata-chrrrrzzzzzzzz Obwohl nüt aktiv gmacht hesch Es isch SO scheisse!

T SSD het mi damals vilicht 250 frangg koschted, aber ich freu mi jede Tag wider über das Teil, shit, es isch unglaublich guet - wers nonig hät, sofort poschte!

ich würd nid. SSDs sterbet schneller als HDDs und bruchet drum es speziellsch schrib/lösch verfahre. Windows 7 het das standardmässig integriert. Under XP wirds wohl au irgendwie gah aber isch dütlech umständlicher. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Realign the data and the previous 32 and 64 gigabit roadblocks to flash storage disappear. Today, Intel and Micron announced the first 128 gigabit NAND flash chip. The chip, which was created through the companies' joint IM Flash Technologies venture, is smaller than a fingertip, created through a 20 nanometer manufacturing process and is capable of 333 megatransfers per second with the option of stacking as many as eight chips on top of each other. What makes the new NAND unique is its planar structure that allows individual memory cells to scale much smaller than before. When combined with a Hi-K/metal gate combo to keep the power leaks to a minimum, presto, you've got flash memory denser than your mother-in-law's fruitcake.
