According to reporting from GlobalGrind, after three decades of music, Adam Yauch’s voice fell silent today. In 2009, Yauch announced heavy news that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He took quick action, having the tumor removed and beginning radiation treatments.
According to the CDC, cancer is the second leading cause of death amongst males. Yauch fought the disease for nearly three years. To aid in his recovery, Adam adopted a predominately vegan diet, which has been reported to have a variety of health benefits. His decision was at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.
Yauch first became exposed to Tibetan culture and concerns on a trip to Nepal. Using his celebrity to promote awareness through music, in the 90’s, he helped spearhead the Tibetan Freedom Concerts.
Rumors buzzed last summer that the artist had finally kicked the cancer. However, Yauch was not in attendance when the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month. According to the Huffington Post, Adam set the record straight on the band’s website:
'Hello My Friends While I’m grateful for all the positive energy people are sending my way, reports of my being totally cancer free are exaggerated. I’m continuing treatment, staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future.'
Yauch, who played bass and contributed vocals to the bands many albums, also went by the moniker MCA. Cause of death is currently undetermined. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
