I like both. When I watch movies or TV shows of this nature I generally take my brain out and put it on the seat next to me—in other words I am VERY forgiving no matter how stupid the story lines or film making really is. I don’t expect Citizen Kane when it comes to watching a cowboy movie in space so I’m not surprised when it isn’t. What IS surprising to me is when people complain that they don’t like the newer Star Wars movies and prefer the three earlier ones. I always tell them to go back and watch Return of the Jedi and they will sing a different tune.
3.) Kurasawa or Hitchcock?
Kurasawa was a total John Ford rip-off and admitted it. I think his movies are great but I like Ford’s a whole lot better. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence and The Searchers are better than anything Kurasawa ever did. A lot of people won’t agree with that but they think it’s hip to like foreign films for some reason that’s always escaped me. I like GOOD movies and I don’t care where they come from. Hitchcock was a master. Vertigo, Rear Window and Psycho—need I say more? If I do then you are a total ignoramus. My very favorite director is John Huston. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is the best movie ever made.
4.) David Lynch or Quentin Tarantino?
This is easy. David Lynch of course. Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Fire Walk With Me and Wild at Heart matched up with what, Django Unchained? Is it even close? Not to me. I LOVE Lynch and his vision and I even LIKE his below average films. Tarantino is good but not great and I enjoy his films but his work comes off like a student film version of Sam Peckinpah. Can we even discuss Django Unchained in the same breath with Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch? No we can’t. Peckinpah was a total master and I’m sure Tarantino loves his work. At least he better, if not then oh boy…
6.) Beer, Wine or Spirits?
My all-time favorite booze always was and always will be FREE booze.
Jede klonti Indiedepp ohni eigene Chopf würd da natürlich säge "Ramones", will die halt "meh true" gsi sind als d'Sex Pistols, wo eh alles fake und McLaren und bla gsi isch - und natürlich nöd schnallet, dass de Lydon en scho immer gsi isch und en au immer no isch8.) The Ramones or The Sex Pistols (or Black Flag)?
There are good things about all of those bands but if I had to pick one I guess it would be The Pistols. Johnny Rotten has remained one of my absolute heroes. I think he has handled his fame really well and usually I agree with his diatribes whatever they are. I was especially impressed when they told The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame to fuck off after being inducted. Ha! I couldn’t agree more. Black Flag is REALLY great as well. One of the best rock shows I ever saw was Black Flag on the Slip It In tour and then there’s The Ramones. I can’t say I like everything they ever put out but I think the It’s Alive album is one of the best rock records ever. Also, Dee Dee’s original autobiography is the greatest rock book ever. He can remember every drug or drink he ever took but he can’t remember a thing about being in The Ramones. THAT’S rock-n-roll.

Venus: Rote Fabrik
This was my third Melvins show, and easily the most memorable. Porn started and did two long hypnotic drone pieces with Coady joining in on drums for the second song, and Big Business were excellent too, of course. After them, Buzz stormed on stage and immediately started playing. He seemed really pissed off at the crowd for some reason. I don't remember the exact setlist, but they started off with "Nude with Boots," and, except for "Tipping the Lion," "Eye Flys," "Honey Bucket," a Who cover, "the Star-Spangled Banner" and "Boris," everything they played was off of NWB and ASA.
I think they cut the set off shorter though. During the bassy part of "Boris," where it's just the bassline and Buzz singing, this ass got up on stage, did crotch thrusts toward the audience and started stroking Buzz. Jared put his bass down then, and started repeatedly screaming "Why won't you shut up" at him. Buzz did that too, and Dale picked up a wrench and went "I'll give you something to shut up about." After a while, the bassist for Porn walked over and got the drunk ass off the stage. Jared jumped off the stage then with his mic in his hand, and started walking through the crowd, screaming "Why won't you shut up." Buzz in the meantime, just started playing harmonics for a while, and eventually started playing this weird guitar line and sang "Why won't you shut the fuck up" to the tune of "Another Brick in the Wall." Jared climbed up on stage again, and started singing along with Buzz (this time with "Another Brick in the Wall's" actual lyrics) and Coady and Dale joined in too. This guy then ran up to the front, and really angrily started yelling "Hey! Just play your bass" to Jared (who was just singing at this point), so he got off the stage again, grabbed that guy and started shaking him, and again screamed "why won't you shut up" and went on stage again. They then all sang "All in all it's just another brick in the wall" one more time, and walked off the stage, with Buzz just saying "Thank you for coming" before leaving. Awesome!
