Oh my goodness. OH MY GOODNESS. Ron Gilbert, best known as the creator of Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion, just launched a Kickstarter for a brand new old-school point-and-click adventure game that looks just about incredible.

Yes, yes, we're all suffering from Kickstarter malaise, and these days crowdfunded projects seem ripe for disappointment, but this is pretty much a dream game for anyone who played PC games in the 80s and 90s, back when many of us fell in love with the likes of Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and Zak McKracken.

This is Thimbleweed Park. Gilbert and co-conspirator Gary Winnick want $375,000 to make it happen. And it sounds wonderful.

"We want Thimbleweed Park to be like an undiscovered classic LucasArts' adventure game you'd never played before," they write. "A game discovered in a dusty old desk that puts a smile on your face and sends a wave of nostalgia through you in the same way it does for us."

It helps that these guys are very experienced, that their Kickstarter makes a great pitch without any frills (or stretch goals), and that this seems like more than just a pipe dream. Check out the project for the full pitch and more details on the game. If you don't, well...

Gäge de Schluss verhedderet sich d'Story echli, aber bi de Rätsel händs d'Balance so guet troffe wie sitt de Lucas Arts-Ära nüme: Sie sind rächt knackig, aber nie unlogisch (bin ohni Walkthrough dur s'ganze Spiel cho) und d'd'Puzzle Dependency Chart isch ziemlich offe und wiitverzwiigt, aber doch nöd i eme Usmass, dass me d'Übersicht komplett verlüürt.

d'Rätsel sind würkli fair und logisch, wahrschinlich aber au eis vode eifachere Adventures. Ich bin trotzdem zwoimal bimene (absolut logische) Rätsel hange bliebe und gfrusted gsi. Am beste würd mer dänn ufhöre spiele und en Tag spöter mit neuem Elan und Energie dranane ga, aber das mitem Ufhöre isch dänn amigs nöd so eifach.

Frage stelle, wo zu nüt füered oder Gägeständ erfolglos usprobiere etc. Det ischs Game eher weniger guet bestückt als d'Klassiker (glaubs, mis letschte Point & Click isch 10 oder 15 Jahr her). D'Interaktion zwüsched de spielbare Charaktere isch au sältsam will z.T. nöd vorhande, mer chan au nöd mitenand rede. Nacheme wichtige Event stönts dänn eifach schwiegend näbed enand, det hädmer 's Feedback am meiste gfehlt.

en Erkänntnis isch für mich d'Grafik, wo absolut souverän und stimmig zwüsched verschiedne Uflösige wächsled, je nachdem was brucht wird. 'S zeigt au, dass präzis pixleti Low-Res-Grafik en zitlose Reiz häd und ökonomisch isch ide Herstellig. Ich chan mer allgemein en Stil-Historismus ide Games guet vorstelle, will ebe würkigsvoll und ökonomisch.
